VERDUN glassworks
VERDUN is a small city in northeast France, on the banks of the Meuse river. It’s known as the site of the First World War Battle of Verdun. Verdun’s battle fields are marked by museums and memorials, such as the Douaumont Ossuary, with the remains of more than 100 000 soldiers.
Auguste Daum was a lieutenant in the artillery and fell in front of Verdun in 1916. He was the son of Jean Daum, brother of Antonin Daum and father of Léon Daum. Auguste Daum was the first representative of the second generation taking the responsibility for Daum company. He was one of the founder members of École de Nancy and the director of Daum studio.
